2013-03-13_014 2013-03-13_015Luke has always LOVED collecting eggs inside the coop.  He especially loves going out to Uncle Levi's place and collecting in his coop because Levi has more chickens and more eggs.

Mama to adopted babies

We took a few eggs from Uncle Levi's chicken coop.  We knew they were fertile since he had a rooster.  Our little bantam hen was "setting" so we thought she could hatch some.  Yup.  She took right over with her adoptive eggs and sat on them until they hatched.  Only two of the 5 ended up hatching and now they are grown into white chickens who lay brown eggs and they are bigger than their Mama.

It all began with a boy who loves chickens

[caption id="attachment_23" align="aligncenter" width="625"]DSC_0010 Two of our green egg layers[/caption]

Really it all started when Luke was a little guy and he loved to go outside and see all the chickens.  We only had a few hens but he loved them. This was July of 2011.  Luke was only 20 months.  This was before "Girl" came to us.
